Career Development Center

The Islamic Center of Hawthorne Career Development Center provides a space for all ICH community members of all ages and demographics to gain career information, advice, guidance, and resources. The center will provide services catered to the following main topics:

K-8 (Al-Huda)
We will provide high school prep focused workshops as well as academic field trips.

Highschool
The center will provide opportunities for high school students to start gaining volunteering and job experience, for example: opportunities to shadow our Muslim professionals in the community. We will also provide college prep focused workshops that should demystify the SAT/ACT, CHSPE, as well as AP classes. Lastly, we will assist in all things having to do with college apps, from applying, to selecting a school and a major.

College & Post Grad
For college students, we will provide assistance with a range of services for both community college, four-year programs, and post-grad. A few topics we will encompass are: FAFSA, loans, scholarships, career pathways (e.g. Pre-med), transferring to four-year, research, projects, grad testing (e.g. MCAT, GRE, GMAT), internships, and more.

Trade
(work in progress, need input from people in this field) (barber school, welding, hand-work, etc..)

Entrepreneurship
For the entrepreneurs, we will shed light on taxes, marketing, self branding, social media presence, E-commerce, and the basics of starting a business in California.

Personal Finance & Investments
The center will provide guidance on all things personal finance and investments. We will cover topics such as: how to pay taxes, how to budget, understand investments from an Islamic perspective, and explain the basics of the stock market, mutual funds, private equity investing, and retirement funds.

No matter which career path a community member is going through, they can make use of the following services:

  • Networking: We hope to help our members find others in their field to reach out to and collaborate or learn from one another.
  • Professional Presence: We hope to encourage professional presence on platforms such as LinkedIn, as well as give resources about how to do so.
  • Resumes: We hope to assist our members in their resumes, whether it be their first resume, or specializing their resume for a certain role/position.
  • Job searching: We will look to provide assistance for those looking for a job in their field in any way possible (access to job searching websites, as well as job listing resources).
