Our History – Creation of Our Center
The Islamic Center of Hawthorne (ICH) is a religious non-profit 501©(3) organization incorporated in the state of California in March 1995. Our facility at 12209 Hawthorne Way is fully paid for and proudly owned by our local Muslim community. As a nonprofit organization, we are committed to serving the religious, educational, and social needs of families throughout the greater Los Angeles area. We offer daily prayers, Qur’an classes, youth programs, family activities, and a wide range of community services.
One of our biggest accomplishments is Al-Huda Islamic School, which opened in 1998 with just 31 students. Today, it has grown into a full Pre-K through 8th grade school serving over 150 students, providing strong academic instruction alongside Islamic values. Beyond education, we support our community through financial assistance for families in need and by hosting youth camps, family camps, picnics, block parties, and other social events that strengthen our sense of unity. We also work closely with the City of Hawthorne, taking part in civic events and neighborhood initiatives while building positive relationships with interfaith and local partners.
For over three decades, we have remained dedicated to uplifting and empowering our diverse community, and we continue to work every day to serve with compassion, excellence, and the spirit of unity.
OUR BOARD OF DIRECTORS
The Board of Directors (B.O.D.) is the elected leadership responsible for overseeing all operations of the Islamic Center of Hawthorne. The President, Secretary, and Treasurer are chosen directly by the Center’s General Body. Afterward, the President appoints four additional Board members, subject to approval by the General Body. Each Board serves a three-year term.
The Board welcomes community input and remains committed to providing high-quality services that meet the evolving needs of our members. We continually seek dedicated volunteers to support the many programs and initiatives offered at the Center. If you have time, skills, or expertise to contribute, we encourage you to email us at volunteer@ichla.org.
